Nestled among the rolling hills of historic Roswell, Georgia, near the Chattahoochee River, is one of Roswells best kept secrets. It is a unique gallery called FlameTree Glass. This gallery features a variety of glass art, all handmade in the United States, as well as interesting watercolor paintings, pottery, and origami paper art. The owners, Lance and Maureen McRorie, are artists themselves. They create most of the pieces youll see in the gallery. Lance makes a variety of creative stemware, sculptures, ornaments, pendants, perfume bottles, and dishes. Maureen loves to create colorful, whimsical sculptures, baskets, lighting, wind chimes, and beaded jewelry. Youll also find glass art pieces by many local artists, some of them Lance and Maureens students.
In addition to the glass art gallery, FlameTree has a large, state of the art, classroom/studio. They offers beginner to advanced classes in the old glassblowing tradition known as lampworking, or more recently as flameworking. Lance teaches the beginner to intermediate classes, which includes, how to make ornaments, beads, marbles, sculptures and pendants. FlameTree also hosts distinguished celebrity instructors, who come from all over the country to teach advanced workshops. Artists congregate in the studio area to work, practice and collaborate on creative ideas. For those not participating, viewing windows offer a look at work in progress in the studio. FlameTree Glass is also a glass and tool supplier. They carry everything from borosilicate glass tubes to Italian soft glass rods.
Lance and Maureen McRorie have been in the flameworking business since 1999 and have been at their 470 South Atlanta Street location in Roswell since 2006. Together, theyve created award-winning glass art compositions, and their studio has birthed many top glass artists in the field today. Theyve been featured in several publications, books, and magazines, and have even been on television.
