Woodward North sixth-grader Eesh Trivedi has qualified to compete as a semifinalist in the 2017 Georgia National Geographic State Bee. The contest will be held March 31 at Georgia College and State University.

In the first round of the National Geographic Bee competition, now in its 29th year, bees were held in schools across the county with fourth- through eighth-grade students to determine school champions. School champions then took a qualifying test submitted to the National Geographic Society. The society invited 100 of the top-scoring students in each of the 50 states, District of Columbia, Department of Defense Dependents School, and U.S. territories to compete as semifinalists at the State Bee level.

One champion from each state and territory will advance to the National Geographic Bee Championship May 14-18 at the National Geographic Society headquarters in Washington, D.C. The national champion will receive a $50,000 college scholarship, a lifetime membership in the Society, and an all-expenses paid Lindblad expedition to the Galápagos Islands aboard the new National Geographic Endeavour ll.
