Second Grade classes at Alpharetta Elementary School are kicking-off their Project-Based Learning Service Project, Make a Difference-Socks & Underwear Drive, next week. Organizers reached out to organizations in the community to identify a need that they could help meet. They were fortunate to connect with Foster Care Support Foundation (www.Fostercares.org), right down the road. The Director said they ALWAYS have more needs than they can meet, and are in constant need of NEW socks and underwear for the children & young adults they serve. From there, the project was born:
What is needed: donations of new socks & underwear for kids
When: December 4th -8th
Where: Mrs. Goldsmith’s class, Room 1042, Alpharetta Elementary School
Why: Kids need socks & underwear
Who: YOU-EVERYONE- to Donate!
The kids have been hard at work creating marketing materials and advertisements to generate support for the drive. They are collecting NEW socks and underwear for children in the community. Each Second-Grade Class is responsible for marketing to, collecting from and counting the donations from specific grade levels.
The children thought it would be great fun to have a contest to see which grade could bring in the most donations. One vision was for the grade level with the most donations to be awarded a monetary prize to use as "seed money" for their own Service Learning Project to support a charity of their choosing. Another idea was for the winning grade level to be given a monetary gift to use toward their next PBL, for supplies, etc.
They need your help to make this a fabulous success, and would love as many donations of socks and underwear as possible. Please feel free to share the project with friends, family, employers and businesses that you may know who would like to support the drive.
