The Bowen Center for the Arts hosted their Awards Reception for their 15th Annual Juried Photography Show Saturday, September 2nd. This exhibit is the finest collection of photographic works. These were produced by 36 regional artists (including 8 first timers to a juried event) from all over Georgia, with almost all works for sale.
This year's Photo Judge was Travis Rhoads of Alpharetta. Travis awarded the $500 First Prize to Nadine Yawn of Ellijay for her breathtaking airplane photo Destination Dawn. Second Prize of $300 was awarded to Mark Green of Jasper for his panoramic landscape on canvas Northern View from Mt. Oglethorpe. Third Place of $150, and an Honorable Mention, went to Kathleen Gill of Jasper for her breathtaking black and whites of a forest in Naked Dance and her stark Dogwood Study. Additional Honorable Mentions went to Tom Reed of Dawsonville for his panoramic landscape on canvas Westfjords - Iceland, David Ferguson of Canton for his architectural black and white Stairway, and Karen Cannon of Auburn for her intriguing photo of a mine shaft Partly Cloudy.
The Bowen always appreciates these photographic artists who contributed their time and talent in artwork. Also a special thanks to Judge, Travis Rhoads, for all his time and insightful critiques of several works. His hard work and critical eye brought us this fantastic display. And special thanks to Judy Linn, whose classical guitar music lilted through the art center reception. The Bowen also wishes to thank all those incredible volunteers who make it work.
This wonderful Photo Exhibit continues through Friday, September 29th.
The Bowen Center for the Arts is located just North of Dawsonville’s Historic Square at 334 Highway 9 North. Admission is free. Hours are Tuesday to Friday 10 to 4, Saturday Noon to 4.
