Dog flu is an infectious respiratory disease of dogs that is caused by canine influenza viruses. These viruses can be transmitted directly from dog to dog through both direct and indirect contact. Vaccination has been proved to be an effective way to prevent the spread of disease.
On June 14 & 20, Tamberly Animal Hospital is partnering with Merck Animal Health for the Dog Flu Vacciation Day (#dogfluday), during which discounted dog flu vaccines will be offered to pet owners. This initiative is in response to a recent outbreak of dog flu in the southeast.
Dog Flu Vaccination Day is taking place across the U.S. to help contain this current outbreak of dog flu. Owners of at-risk dogs are encouraged to call Tamberly Animal Hospital at 678-459-6001 to make an appointment.
Dog flu is highly contagious to dogs and spreads quickly. Dogs are at higher risk of contracting dog flu when visiting:
• Boarding facilities
• Dog parks
• Doggie day care
• Pet shows/sporting events
Common symptoms include fever, cough, lethargy, rapid breathing, lack of appetite.
Tamberly Animal Hospital is committed to helping pet owners understand what they can do to protect their dog from dog flu. For more information, contact us or visit www.doginfluenza.com.
