North Atlanta is a region that many entrepreneurs call home. From access to resources to quality of life, the area provides a strong support base for those starting and growing their businesses.
The Alpharetta Chamber of Commerce gave entrepreneur Stefanie Diaz Sheehan her start. Sheehan is the founder of Mastermind Your Launch, which provides business and brand strategy, as well as platform building.
“When I first started, I was really like so many entrepreneurs. I got on my laptop and started Googling and finding online resources, and then I came to a point where I needed to be face-to-face and find people who were like me and start making some real-world connections. My first networking event ever was called Women Who Walk the Walk with the Alpharetta Chamber. I knew I had to be there,” says Stefanie.
Women Who Walk the Walk brings together aspiring and successful women entrepreneurs to provide opportunities for mentorship.
Sheehan also hosts the weekly podcast series Mastermind Your Launch, where she interviews business owners, thought leaders, and entrepreneurs.
As a woman-owned business, Mastermind Your Launch is a part of the growing trend of women in entrepreneurship, a number that has increased by 45% between 2007 and 2016, according to the American Express Open Report on the State of Women-Owned Businesses.
Alpharetta was also named the #1 in the United States for women entrepreneurs in a GoodCall ranking. GoodCall, based in South Carolina, aggregates governmental data to assist consumers with personal and business decisions.
North Atlanta also includes programs such as the Women In Business Mentoring Program, launched this year by the Greater North Fulton Chamber of Commerce (GNFCC). This program pairs experienced business leaders within the Chamber with women in business mentorship and professional development.
Entrepreneur Guilherme Cerqueira started the company Worthix in Silicon Valley, and as the company grew, made the decision to relocate to North Atlanta because of the region’s balance between opportunities in technology and quality of life.
Worthix provides targeted customer information by using artificial intelligence to develop customer surveys.
“To reduce my costs and accomplish my goals, I needed to have access to greater opportunities in a place with a tech mindset. Also, I needed to have a good place for people to live and build careers with me. I researched several places in the United States and definitely picked Alpharetta because there is this notoriously growing tech spirit and mindset for startups,” says Cerqueira, CEO of Worthix.
North Atlanta offers a number of resources to entrepreneurs in the region.
“Alpharetta and Forsyth have a lot of opportunities as far as new startups are concerned in terms of the space and support from organizations like the Forsyth Chamber, Alpharetta Tech Network, and all of the meetups,” says Ramesh Kannan, founder of Vaivza Inc., based in Cumming.
