MARION, Ind. (August 22, 2017) — Indiana Wesleyan University (IWU) announced today that College Choice has ranked IWU’s online Associate of Science in Accounting No. 2 out of 50 programs nationwide.
College Choice ranked the programs based on academic reputation, retention rates, affordability and by average early career salaries. IWU received a near-perfect score of 99.75, placing the university just shy of the top spot.
In its analysis, College Choice said that IWU’s cohort learning style set it apart from other online accounting degree programs: “Students do not study and work in a vacuum. They enter the program as part of close cohort of other students and then rely on those relationships for mutual, academic support.”
College Choice also cited the close relationship that students develop with instructors.
“Our students frequently mention the accessibility and relatability of our faculty,” said David Rose, vice president for enrollment and marketing for IWU’s National and Global Campus. “In an online learning setting, creating that supportive environment is particularly important.”
IWU — a nonprofit, regionally accredited institution — currently has about 11,000 adult students attending classes either online or at one of IWU’s 15 education centers located in Indiana, Kentucky and Ohio. IWU’s online students come from all over the United States as well as other countries. The online Associate in Accounting degree is one of more than 80 online and onsite degree programs available through IWU’s Adult Enrollment Services. Currently, 122 students are enrolled in the Associate in Accounting program, and 100 percent of those students are online students.
"Online programs in accounting are an affordable, accessible, and flexible way to earn an associate degree, especially if you find yourself in a situation that makes going back to school either logistically or financially problematic," said Christian Amondson, managing editor of College Choice. "Despite the stigma online programs once held, they have mostly shed those stereotypes and have increasingly solid reputations."
This is not the first time IWU’s accounting programs have been recognized. BestColleges.com ranked IWU’s National and Global campus in 16 different categories, including a No. 12 ranking in the Top Online Colleges of 2017 and No. 2 ranking for best online college in Indiana, best online bachelor’s degree in accounting and best associate degree in accounting.
