The Milton High School Orchestras will be hosting a Pumpkin Pops Concert at 7pm on Thursday, October 19th in the Milton High School auditorium. The orchestra will perform in costume. The program will include spook-tacular songs, such as music from The Addams Family, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, and Phantom of the Opera.
The public is welcome to join us in costume or in everyday clothes. There will be free face painting by the Milton Honors Art Society and refreshments during intermission for all to enjoy. Admission is $5. Tickets can be purchased at the door or in advance via www.miltonorchestra.org/concerts.html.
Sergio Rodriguez will be debuting as the new orchestra director for Milton High School. He has been teaching orchestra in the United States since 1997. Previously, he was the orchestra's director at Grady High School in Atlanta, where he also taught guitar and music appreciation. His orchestra program has been recognized by the Georgia Music Educators Association with superior ratings for outstanding performances. Recently, an orchestra under his leadership performed at Carnegie Hall, and had been selected to perform at the prestigious American String Teacher Association National Orchestra Festival (ASTA). Mr. Rodriguez was named Best Teacher of The Year by the Atlanta Family Award for Excellence in Education in 2010 and was promoted to Lead Master Teacher. Milton Orchestra will also participate in the Georgia State University Invitation Orchestra Festival earlier in the month on October 13th. Middle and High School orchestras come together for a performance and clinic as an intact group. In addition, the event will feature master classes with Georgia State University faculty, workshops in various musical styles, and the use of the Electric Strings Lab.
