Met with bright colors, positive quotes such as “BEE Amazing” and “Be a Unicorn in a Field of Horses,” you can’t help but smile. There are also some pretty cool smocks to greet you at the front door! With such a great and vibrant open space, children are sure to feel free to express themselves through their art!
We Love Art, Fun & the Process at Bee’s
With paint, canvases, glue, glitter, endless paper, clay, water color, spray bottles, washi tape, brushes, sponges, and shelves full of fun waiting to be picked up by small hands, children will want to create and then create some more! Using their imagination is a huge part of process art! The process leads to some out of this world art, BIG Amazing Art and sometimes SMALL Amazing art! With process art, children often have their own idea of what they would like to add to a project and we welcome their individuality as an artist. During the process children are often formatting what they would like to create through gathering, patterning, sorting, taking actions and then proceeding an amazing piece of work, their work, their masterpiece.
Why the Name Bee’s & Quotes
Angela Holsey, a Licensed Social Worker with a background in education, had dreamed of owning her own studio for children for many years. So, three years ago she rented a storage unit and started planning for a place where children could create amazing art in which there are no rules when creating, there are no mistakes and children could feel a connection in how they created a painting or a cool looking monster out of a paper bag, a lunchbox from a cookie box, make an umbrella out of cardboard that really works, or come to the studio and tell me that they need to build a macaroni house for their dog because he needs somewhere to sleep. A place where when children left the studio with their parents, they could tell them an amazing story about their magical and magnificent art piece. So, when she decided to name the studio she came up with things that made her happy, with hopes that she could spread her happiness like the Bumblebee. The quotes came from a peaceful mindfulness that Angela just simply likes to encourage everyone and meet people and children where they are, something she learned from her work as a Social Worker and as an Army Veteran. Combined, here we are with Bee’s & Quotes, a positive place where children can spread joy, make friends, and create some cool art.
While working at the studio, I met several parents who expressed the need for children with Autism and Special Needs to have a class. After completing research on activities available to parents with exceptional children, I realized the activities/social programs for exceptional children are limited. I created the art class called HoneyCombs, so families can come out and create with their children. During this class, our focus is the same, trust the process. We focus on the artist abilities and allow them time to make decisions when creating. It is my hope that other programs like HoneyCombs will be offered, so families can come out and create some great memories with their amazing children.
If you missed the Grand Opening, it’s ok because we are having an Open House on August 26, 2017, from 1:30pm to 4:00pm. It’s Angela’s Birthday, yes it really is! To celebrate, she is giving away a Paint Birthday Party to a special child who attends the Open House! Please come out and celebrate the Studio/ Birthday Bash
