The Song of Atlanta Chorus (SOA) is celebrating its 60th year as a chartered chapter of Sweet Adelines International (SAI), a singing organization for women with chapters all over the world.
To mark this amazing milestone, SOA competed last weekend (April 1) at its annual Regional contest and won with a score of 686, the highest score ever posted in Region 14 (Heart of the Blue Ridge) of SAI. Singers in the chorus were overwhelmed by and grateful for the support of their Region and other Sweet Adelines from all over the world.
Director Becki Hine, a Master 700 Director, Showmanship Judge and Showmanship Category Specialist of SAI, had this to say about the performance: "Our beautiful time on stage felt highly energetic and had a very relaxed, super prepared undertone that helped us to show off our very best singing and performing for our audience."
SOA performed two songs in the contest, their arrangements of "Sweet Georgia Brown" and "If I Had My Way." The chorus was then invited to perform an "acceptance" song once their victory was announced. They performed "All That Jazz" from their groundbreaking "Chicago" set.
After the Regional contest, a party was held for all Regional attendees where SOA performed the remainder of their "Chicago" set in full costume and character. This exciting performance set contributed to SOA's 7th place win over 500 SAI choruses worldwide at International competition last October in Las Vegas.
SOA's annual Spring Show and Silent Auction are scheduled for Saturday, April 22 at 4 p.m. at St. David's Episcopal Church (1015 Old Roswell Road, Roswell, GA 30076).
Tickets are available at the door or may be purchased in advance at www.songofatlanta.com. Don't miss this final opportunity to see "Chicago" – SOA-style! The show will also feature the 2015 SAI International Quartet Champions, "Bling!" and the highly sought-after men's show quartet, "Boardwalk." It will be an afternoon of a cappella music to entertain all ages and is family-friendly.
