On October 25th, 2017, seven students and two teachers set off from Mill Springs Academy (MSA) in Alpharetta, to Oxford College in Commerce to participate in the Georgia Independent Schools Association (GISA) One Act Play regional competition. The all-day event attracted over 150 students from six surrounding independent schools. The day was full of wonderful performances and great learning opportunities. Mill Springs Academy presented the play "ART", by Yasmina Reza, which concerns three close friends whose world is torn apart when one of them purchases a “white” painting. What follows is a humorous, but also poignant dissection of modern art, male bonding, and the true nature of friendship. Part of the judging criteria includes the play beginning and ending with a completely bare stage. Then each school has 55 minutes to set-up the stage, perform, and then clear the stage again. MSA managed this in 43 minutes with an amazing performance that brought cheers from the audience at the conclusion. At the end of the day, MSA’s Cameron Carr (sophomore) walked away with one of five acting awards – “Best Performance” – given out across all student participants, continuing MSA’s streak of acting victories at the event to six out of the last seven years! Everyone involved came home that evening exhausted, but proud of the work they accomplished. Congratulations and GO MUSTANGS!
Mill Springs participates in the Georgia Special Needs Scholarship/SB10 program.
